How to Shoot Reels Properly
To make editing faster, cleaner, and smoother, footage needs to be prepared the right way from the start. Follow these rules when shooting on a camera or phone.
Always shoot vertically
Use 9:16 format from the beginning. Reels should be recorded vertically, not cropped later from horizontal footage.
Record in good quality
Ideally shoot in 1080p or 4K with a stable image. Do not send blurry, compressed, or screen-recorded footage unless absolutely necessary.
Keep files organized
Put all footage into one clearly named folder. If possible, separate main clips, B-roll, extra shots, references, and notes.
Sync audio properly
If you record with an external microphone, start each take with a clear clap. Keep both camera audio and mic audio for easier syncing.
Leave space for editing
Do not cut clips too early. Leave a little space at the start and end of each take so we can edit transitions, hooks, and captions cleanly.
Send references
If you have a preferred style, pacing, caption look, or creator example, include it in the folder. The clearer the reference, the better the result.
